Axis 1 - Understanding the Causes and Impacts of Vaccine Hesitancy

Vaccine acceptance in the context of potential highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) outbreaks: Looking beyond online misinformation, 2025-2027 – Funding: Institute of Infection and Immunity and Canadian Institutes of Health Research (Project Grant – Priority Research : Pandemic and Health Emergency Preparedness Research) In the context of a potential A(H5N1) influenza pandemic, this project aims to better understand the perspectives on vaccination among populations at higher risk of contracting and transmitting the A(H5N1) influenza virus (e.g., seasonal temporary workers, farm owners, veterinarians, and institutional decision-makers). This project also seeks to capture online discussions related to A(H5N1) influenza vaccination within the poultry industry. 
Barrières et facteurs facilitants pour la vaccination des élèves de troisième secondaire : Évaluation et pistes d’action, 2024-2025 – Funding from the Regional Directorate of Public Health of the Laurentides This project aims to describe the factors that either promote or hinder vaccination among Secondary III high school students who can consent to vaccination on their own (both in terms of service organization and the attitudes and behaviors of students) and to propose strategies to overcome the identified barriers. 
Social Sciences and Humanities Consortium: Essential Societal Infrastructure to Support Canada Immuno-Engineering and Biomanufacturing Pipeline, 2024-2028 – Funding : Canada Biomedical Research Fund and Biosciences Research Infrastructure Fund The SSH Consortium brings together leading social science researchers from Canada and around the world to better understand and support trust in, as well as equitable access to, vaccines and other immunization innovations. Dr. Dubé is responsible for leading and collaborating on projects aimed at understanding the social and behavioral factors related to vaccination. 
La santé publique et les établissements de détention du Québec : Facteurs facilitants et barrières à la prévention des maladies infectieuses et à la promotion de la santé, 2024-2026 – Funding from the Chair This project aims to identify the main health concerns in Quebec’s provincial correctional facilities, including vaccination. It also seeks to explore the barriers to health and public health interventions and identify promising public health practices, interventions, and programs to improve the health of incarcerated individuals. 
La vaccination des personnes en situation d’handicap, 2024-2026 – Funding from the Chair This project aims to provide an overview of the issues faced by people with disabilities regarding vaccination in Canada and to identify potential solutions to address these issues. 
Projets menés auprès des professionnels de la santé, 2023-2026 – Funding from the Chair Projects are underway to document vaccine hesitancy using a validated questionnaire and to document the working conditions and moral injuries of vaccinators in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. 
La désinformation comme signal : une approche en sciences sociales appliquée à la vaccination, 2023-2025 - Funding: Fonds de Recherche du Québec - Société et cultureThis qualitative project aims to describe and compare the narrative frameworks on COVID-19 vaccination in Quebec and France, the actors involved, and the evolution of discourse and debates. The project also aims to highlight the attitudes, values, beliefs, and perceptions of misinformation regarding vaccination in a diverse sample of Quebec adults, and explore how these results compare with those from a sample of French adults.
Pre-exposure mpox vaccination campaigns aimed at GBTMSM+ and sex work communities: What worked in 2022 and what can we learn to strengthen future targeted vaccination campaigns to stigmatized communities in infodemic times?, 2023-2025 - Funding: Canadian Institutes of Health Research (Building capacity in interdisciplinary research on mpox (monkeypox) and other (re)emerging zoonotic threats to health)

This project aims to better understand the determinants of mpox vaccination acceptability in targeted communities, among community workers who provide services to these communities, and among health or social service professionals. A document analysis and interviews are being conducted in three Canadian provinces, including Quebec.
